GC Points System
What are GC Points?
GC Points are an in-app gamification feature representing your study progress, streak engagement, and section mastery. They are NOT real currency, NOT tradeable for cash or goods, NOT redeemable outside the app, and have NO monetary value. The points system is a learning aid only.
Can I buy GC Points?
No. GC Points are earned through engagement (correct answers, completed sections, streak milestones, daily challenges). Real-money purchases unlock product access (state simulators, lifetime bundles), not GC Points themselves.
Can I cash out my GC Points?
No. GC Points have no monetary value and cannot be exchanged for cash, refunds, or external goods.
Are GC Points gambling?
No. There is no chance-based earning or spending mechanism. All earning is deterministic (based on verifiable user actions). All spending is direct — you exchange points for a specific cosmetic or convenience feature, with no random outcomes. GC Prep contains no loot boxes, prize wheels, or chance-based purchases.
What can I spend GC Points on?
GC Points can be spent on cosmetic and convenience features inside GC Prep — UI theme unlocks, Practice Exam Variation Mode replays, Cram Sheet section unlocks for time-limited preview, streak freezes, and tier-up nudges. None of these provide real-world value.
What happens to my GC Points if I delete my account?
GC Points are tied to your account and are removed during the account-deletion process. There is no transfer mechanism.
Virginia Pre-License Course
Is the Virginia pre-license course included with my purchase?
Yes. The DPOR-approved Virginia Contractor Pre-License Course (6 hours, online) is included with VA DPOR 120-day or lifetime access, and with the DMV Bundle. GC Points do not unlock it. Module 1 is an open preview at gcprep.app/va-course.
How long is the course, and will I finish it inside 120 days?
The course is 6 hours of instruction in 8 modules, online and self-paced, so it fits easily inside 120 days. Your time is recorded module by module, and a graded final closes it out.
What happens if my 120-day access ends before I finish?
The lessons and the final lock until you renew or upgrade to lifetime, and the time you have recorded stays on your account. If you already passed the final, your certificate is still yours: open the final page to see it or claim it. Once your certificate is issued, the course is yours to keep: the lessons stay open to read for good, even after 120-day access ends.
I don’t have a Virginia driver’s license. Can I still get the certificate?
Yes. Any student who completes the course and passes the final can claim the certificate. You need a state-issued ID: tick “I don’t have a Virginia driver’s license or ID card”, choose the state that issued yours, and enter your name exactly as it appears on it. The Virginia DMV control number is asked for only if you have one.
Does GC Prep report my completion to DPOR?
Yes. As an approved provider (Provider 2730000506), GC Prep reports each completion to the Virginia Board for Contractors within 7 days, as the regulation requires (18VAC50-22-320). Your certificate stays on the course page, where you can print or save it at any time.
Is the course the licensing exam?
No. The course is the pre-license education requirement. Class A and Class B applicants also take the licensing exams through the Board’s testing provider. The Board issues licenses; GC Prep does not.
Refunds & Account
What is your refund policy?
Refunds are available within 7 days of purchase for digital simulator access. Lifetime bundles follow the same 7-day window. To request a refund, email support@gcprep.app with your purchase confirmation.
How do I delete my account?
Visit your Profile → Account tab → "Delete my account." Account deletion follows a 7-day soft-delete grace period during which you may reactivate. After 7 days, your personal data is permanently removed within 30 days, except where retention is legally required (such as completed-purchase records).
I signed in with Apple and my purchases are missing. What happened?
If you chose "Hide My Email" when you signed in with Apple, Apple gives GC Prep a private relay address instead of your real one, so GC Prep sees a new person and starts a new, empty account. Your purchases and progress are still on your original account. Sign out, then sign in the way you did before (Google, or your email address), and everything will be there. Next time you use Sign in with Apple, choose "Share My Email" and it opens the same account. Still stuck? Email support@gcprep.app (see Support below).
How do I export my data?
Visit your Profile → Account tab → "Download my data." We email you a ZIP file containing your profile, quiz history, and certificates. Delivery within 24 hours.
